| •  Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) 
 
 
| It is a common abdominal complaint that most people suffer from. The condition
is uncomfortable and may be painful. Temporary stool stasis is the main cause of
unpleasant symptoms. Stool stasis result in fermentation with gas production, presenting
as abdominal distention and bloating. Pain and cramps is a result of muscles in
the intestine contracting too tightly as the bolus of feces is forced through the
colon by the pressure of gas. The end result is disturbances such as diarrhea or
constipation. |
